The Executive Board of the Beaver Ridge Resort Condominium Homeowners Association is aware of the existence of a website that mimics our legitimate website and contains very ugly, albeit false and misleading, allegations that are clearly intended to scare potential buyers away from Beaver Ridge.
In response, we wish to make clear that this Board, individually and as a whole, fully supports the First Amendment and the right of Free Speech. However, Free Speech is a right that should be exercised in a responsible manner. The "copycat" website contains misinformation, mischaracterizations, and outright lies.
Significantly, the "copycat" website was registered anonymously and all of the material on the website was posted anonymously. Such secrecy makes it impossible for anyone who reads the "copycat" website to clarify or verify any of the website's malicious content. By operating anonymously the website’s authors are also able to avoid questions about what motivated their attacks on Beaver Ridge. Answers to such questions would help a reader decide whether to give any credence to the posts in the "copycat" website.
The authors' apparent need to conceal their identities is a strong indication that the spiteful content of the "copycat" website should be taken with a hefty dose of skepticism. Legitimate criticism does not need to hide in the shadows or behind the veil of the internet. Sadly, the contents of the "copycat" website illustrate that the right of Free Speech is subject to abuse through the public issuance of statements that are false, inaccurate, and ill-intentioned.
This Board remains confident that anyone who takes the time to look into the possibility of ownership at Beaver Ridge will discover that we are a well-run community whose buildings and property are well-maintained. Any such interested person will also discover that our volunteer Board, which is responsible for the day-to-day operation of our community, recognizes that the Board’s primary obligation is to protect the interests of all Beaver Ridge owners, as a whole. Unlike the authors of the "copycat" website, our Board members make their names and contact information readily available to the public.
